General Questions
Can I upload other surgeon's videos?
Yes, surgeons can upload other surgeon's videos, as long they cite the appropriate surgeon. We prefer that surgeons showcase their own surgeries. So before you upload another surgeon's video, please tell that surgeon about VuMedi and encourage them to upload the video themselves. But if you have a great video and cannot contact the appropriate surgeon, feel free to upload that surgery.
Why do you have to be a surgeon to join VuMedi?
Creating a private, surgeon-only community ensures the most meaningful knowledge exchange. Other video websites that are open to the general public are inundated with meaningless and often random videos and comments. On VuMedi, you can always be sure to be watching the highest quality surgical videos and be engaged in truly worthwhile discussions with other surgeons.
Surgeons on VuMedi share medical knowledge in videos and discussions. Given the nature of the subject matter, it is crucial to understand the backgrounds of the surgeons with whom you are exchanging knowledge. We've tried to make profile information optional because some users desire this privacy. But if you upload videos or make comments in discussion, please fill out the details in your profile because it increases the overall quality of knowledge exchange.
You can mail us your videos, and we'll put them up for you. Email us at help@vumedi.com and we'll provide you with details.
I have a video on a DVD, how do I upload it?
You need to extract the video files from the DVD. You can do this using Xilisoft DVD Ripper. Alternatively, you can mail us the DVD and we'll take care of it for you. Email us at help@vumedi.com and we'll provide you with details.
You're FAQ has not answered my question, what else can I do?

Legal Questions
Who owns the rights to my videos?
You do. VuMedi claims no ownership to any videos you upload and will never resell your content. Your profile will be linked to every video you upload, so viewers will know exactly whose video they are watching. You can take your videos down at any time.
According to HIPPA, surgical videos that are "de-indentified", or do not contain identifiable patient information, can be freely distributed. If a patient can be identified, you must receive permission from the patient to post this video. You can read the relevant portions of HIPPA here: http://www.med.upenn.edu/ohr/hipaa/proc1.html#5
Is engaging in discussions on VuMedi a liability?
In a word, no. Medical Malpractice is defined as the failure of one rendering professional services to exercise that degree of skill and learning commonly applied under all the circumstances in the community by the average prudent reputable member of the profession with the result of injury, loss or damage to the recipient of those services or to those entitled to rely upon them. Informal comments on a website are not professional judgments or services and cannot prove malpractice. Surgeons assume full responsibility for decisions they make based on information they learn on VuMedi.
