Comparison Between Hyaluronic Acid and Platelet-Rich Plasma, Intra-articular Infiltration in the Treatment of Gonarthrosis

By American Journal of Sports Medicine

A new randomized controlled trial of 160 patients showed that Platelet-Rich Plasma is superior to Hyaluronic Acid in the treatment of arthritis of the knee. Patients that underwent PRP had decreased pain, stiffness and functional limitations such as walking, stair use, standing, and bending when compared to patients who were given HA therapy. This difference was more significant in patients with severe knee arthritis. Results at 24 weeks: WOMAC score 65.1 in HA Group and 36.5 in the ACP group (P < .001)
