Physicians Don't Approve Medicare Reimbursements Publication

By New York Times

In a New York Times article published on April 9, 2014, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services acted on last year’s federal ruling allowing data on Medicare reimbursements to individual doctors to be made public. The article, which cites data only from 2012, reports that only 2% of doctors account for nearly a quarter of the $77 billion paid under Medicare Part B. Some proponents have applauded the move as a step toward increased transparency, quality, and integrity in healthcare. Others, however, have cited the negative implications that this action by CMS has on physician privacy and patient decision-making.
