This randomized study found that those patients who utilized cryotherapy and compression after ACL reconstruction utilized narcotics significantly less than patients who used cryotherapy alone. The study found that at 6 weeks, 83% of patients with cryotherapy/compression discontinued narcotic use while only 28% of patients with cryotherapy alone discontinued narcotic use. The study also found that there was no difference in the functional at scores except for the VAS at 6 weeks.
