This prospective study of 53 patients at a mean follow-up of 40 years after a total meniscectomy found that these patients had a 132x increased rate of total knee replacement in comparison to geographical and age-matched peers. The study found that 13% of patients already had a total knee replacement and 100% of patients were symptomatic. The study also found that in comparison to the non-operated knee, the operated knee had significant differences in range of motion.
