Course Description

The Detroit Regional Sports Medicine Symposium is dedicated to a multiple-specialty, multi-faceted approach to the study, treatment, and prevention of sports related injuries. This sports medicine course will address the different treatment options for a variety of sports, lifestyles issues, and musculoskeletal injuries. This crosses the spectrum of medical specialties and sub-specialties. The curriculum will cover all facets of care for athletes, spectators, and all who have lifestyle challenges.

Target Audience

Physicians, fellows, residents, athletic trainers, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals who are interested in the specialties of sports medicine

Objectives

  • Increase knowledge of current trends in the diagnosis and management of complex orthopaedic injuries
  • Increase knowledge of current trends in non-surgical management of injuries and review evidence based treatment recommendations
  • Increase knowledge of current trends in sports medicine

 Accreditation

PHYSICIANS: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education (FORE) and Detroit Sports Medicine Foundation. The Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide medical education to physicians.

Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 11 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ATHLETIC TRAINERS: The Foundation for Orthopaedic Research & Education is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Certified Athletic Trainers (P3115)

This program is eligible for a maximum of 11 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

PHYSICAL THERAPISTS: Credits for Physical Therapists through the MPTA are pending for this course. We will update the course website as soon as we receive approval and the number of credits provided.
