Overview

The 17th Annual Sports Medicine Update is planned and implemented interprofessionally by physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and athletic trainers. This one day course will provide education through lectures, case base presentations and question & answer sessions. Attendees have the opportunity to select between two different afternoon breakout sessions: Medical & Rehabilitation Track.

Learning Objectives

The activity will highlight best practices in pediatric sports medicine. The goal of this activity is to enhance knowledge, skills, performance and care of the pediatric athlete. At the end of the conference, attendees will be able to:

  • Advocate for the young athlete and understanding overuse and burnout in youth sports.
  • Assess operative and non operative interventions for injuries to both the upper and lower
    extremities in youth sports.
  • Formulate a diagnostic and treatment approach to the athlete with abdominal/pelvic pain.
  • Counsel young athletes on appropriate pre game and recovery nutrition.
  • Formulate alternative strategies using a multi-disciplinary approach for treating MSK pain.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for sports medicine physicians, orthopedists, orthopedic surgeons, pediatricians, internists, primary care/family practice physicians, physical medicine & rehabilitation physicians, pediatric orthopedists, physical therapists, and athletic trainers but may be of interest to  chiropractors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other healthcare professionals who are involved in the care of the young athlete.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.75 ANCC contact hours.

Board of Certification (BOC)
Washington University in St. Louis, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (BOC AP#: P3654) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers (ATs). This program is eligible for a maximum of (6.75) Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program. 

American Board of Pediatrics
Maintenance of Certificate Program (ABP MOC II)
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn up to 6.75 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE)
This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 6.75 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
