At the conclusion of the conference, the participant should be able to:
• Identify an athlete at risk for “burnout” from single-sport specialization and overuse.
• Recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion and articulate the most current standards of practice to manage the concussed young athlete.
• Incorporate the most recent evidence based standards of care for management of anterior cruciate ligament tears in young, developing athletes; from acute care, surgical intervention, return to play criteria, and injury prevention.
• Evaluate acute and chronic injuries to the ankle, knee, and shoulder that are common in the young athlete.
• Be able to discuss the mechanism(s) of how common youth sports injuries occur and be proficient in the sideline examination of the injured athlete.
