Event info

Whether you’ve done fewer than 50 direct anterior approach THAs or more than 100, ICJR’s 2021 10th Annual Direct Anterior Approach Hip Course is the meeting for you.

We guarantee you’ll learn something new from our expert faculty – a panel of international leaders and innovators in the direct anterior approach – as they share their insights into the surgical and patient processes associated this approach to THA. You’ll come away from the course not only with greater knowledge of the direct anterior approach but also with greater confidence in your surgical skills.

When you join us in Houston for the 2021 10th Annual Direct Anterior Approach Hip Course – taking place from Thursday, October 14  to Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the JW Marriott Houston by the Galleria – you’ll learn all about:

Patient selection, including 10 things to help you overcome the learning curve and how to handle more challenging patients such as those who are obese, muscular, or have anatomic deformities

The acetabulum, including how to achieve optimum exposure; ensuring appropriate cup position manually, with image assistance, or with technology such as navigation or robotics; and tips for avoiding impingement and dislocation

The femur, including how to perform femoral releases with or without a specialized table, why femoral stem design matters in the direct anterior approach, and tips and techniques for anterior hip hemiarthroplasty

Avoiding and treating complications, including lateral femoral cutaneous nerve neuropraxia, periprosthetic fractures of the femur and acetabulum, leg length/offset Inequality, and psoas tendon pain

Revision THA, including head/liner exchange; tips, tools, and techniques for component removal; and proximal femoral replacement

In addition to live surgeries, didactic presentations, and case-based discussions, we’ll also provide you with 3 hours of hands-on training in our bioskills lab. The goal is to give you plenty of time to practice what you’ve learned and to ask as many questions as you need to ask of the faculty, who’ve all been where you are now and know what it takes to advance your skills to the next level.

And we won’t only focus on surgical skills at this course: We’ve also planned multiple sessions to address practice management issues, including:

  • Private practice versus hospital employment
  • Bundled payment and other reimbursement models
  • The transition to outpatient arthroplasty
  • How to build an ASC and outpatient arthroplasty program from the ground up
  • Patient satisfaction with direct anterior approach THA

Attend In-Person or Virtually

Unable to travel to Houston for the meeting? No problem: We’ve added a virtual option so that you can participate without traveling, ask questions of our expert faculty in real-time, and earn CME hours – all from the comfort and convenience of your home or office.
