PROGRAM OVERVIEW

This conference will teach non-cardiovascular physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses to identify common risk factors, guidelines and treatment approaches for cardiovascular diseases. Attendees will learn about the latest medical and surgical therapies for heart disease and advances in managing common clinical cardiovascular conditions. Faculty will also discuss the clinical challenges often associated with caring for patients with heart disease.

NEEDS ASSESSMENT
Adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) is one of the most rapidly growing fields in medicine, in part due to tremendous advances in cardiac surgery 50 years ago. Many patients who would not have survived childhood in the past are now reaching 80 years of age. As of 2010, there were 1.4 million adults living with ACHD in the United States, a 63% increase since 2000. This population is projected to grow by 5% annually, creating rapid expansion over the next 30 years. However, this population remains underserved because of poor awareness of the management needs for ACHD among both patients and physicians.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Internists, family practitioners, cardiologists, primary care physicians as well as advanced practice providers, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, radiology technologists, sonographers, residents, fellows, patients, and caregivers
