COVID-19 UPDATE: During these challenging times, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our in-person 30th Annual Baltimore Limb Deformity Course (BLDC) in August. The good news is that we have decided to reinvent ourselves as an online, virtual BLDC. This format will provide our registrants and industry partners an exciting, safe, and convenient web-based platform to learn, exchange ideas, and showcase important developments in the orthopedic subspecialty of limb lengthening deformity correction.

We have developed a syllabus that includes over 25 hours of pre-recorded planning and deformity correction talks/workshops and hardware application videos, in addition to 7 hours of live, interactive sessions for Q&A and case discussions. The virtual course enables surgeons to view the content on their own time and at their own pace. These on-demand videos will be available August 15 through September 30, 2020. Three live virtual sessions will occur on Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30, 2020.

Target Population:

It is intended for orthopedic surgeons and podiatrists who treat long bone and foot/ankle deformities. No prior experience is required.

Topics:

  • Single-level and double-level tibial and femoral deformities
  • Sagittal and oblique plane deformities
  • Rotational deformities
  • Foot and ankle deformities
  • Monolateral/circular external fixation
  • Acute correction techniques
  • Gait implications for angular and rotational deformities
  • Measurement of deformity on digital radiographs
  • Consequences of joint malorientation and malalignment
  • Limb lengthening techniques

Learning Objectives:

Following the completion of this event, participants will be able to:

  • Describe simple and complex pediatric and adult lower limb deformities
  • Interpret advances in the field of limb reconstruction and deformity correction
  • Recognize the methodology of minimally invasive internal and external fixation
  • Identify and evaluate alternatives for the treatment of deformities from hip, knee, ankle, and foot contractures
  • Use electronic media technology to analyze deformity correction
  • Acquire greater insight through the sharing of techniques, tips, and tricks with others in the orthopedic community
