OVERVIEW

The 3rd Annual Sports Medicine Symposium is a two-day symposium on current best practices and innovations in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions used for recreational to elite athletes throughout their lifespan. This course will include a review of the current literature and will highlight an interdisciplinary approach to the latest cutting-edge evaluation and management strategies focused on the tennis and winter athlete. A combination of didactic presentations, hands-on labs, case studies, and panel discussions will be offered from leading experts in the field. Attendees will learn evidence-based: examinations, diagnostic musculoskeletal imaging, orthobiologics and injection therapy techniques, rehabilitation, return-to-sport, and performance strategies.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After participating in this activity, clinicians should be able to:

  1. Describe treatment algorithms to diagnose, manage and refer orthopedic pathologies and sports injuries
  2. Identify and address functional implications of musculoskeletal injuries
  3. Identify and address common tennis and winter sport injuries
  4. Identify and treat acute ACL injuries in the adult athlete
  5. Recognize emergency musculoskeletal injuries and triage and/or manage the plan of care from the sideline
  6. Describe the biomechanics of the tennis swing
  7. Describe psychological techniques to improve sports performance and recognize when to refer for sports psychology services
  8. Develop an appropriate injury management strategy integrating both clinical examination findings with video analysis
  9. Recall effective evidence-based blood flow restriction therapy parameters for the injured athlete

Family Physicians, Emergency Room Physicians, Urgent Care Providers, Orthopedists, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Exercise Physiologists, and Other Healthcare Professionals With an Interest in the Management of Common Orthopedic Sports Injuries
