The Summit will kick off with an update on the current standard of care and management of patients with cardiovascular disease. The next day and a half will highlight recent advances in clinical medicine including 3D modelling and surgical repair. Also addressed will be how catheter interventions have improved outcomes for patients with congenital heart disease including congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (CCTGA). The Summit will incorporate team-based management of complex congenital heart disease and review the importance of avoiding authority gradients, communication, feedback, and mutual understanding.

Patient experiences featuring a severe form of CCTGA, a rare defect that affects heart function and oxygenation levels will be shared. You will see how 3-D printing-guided surgery changed this patient’s quality of life.

The Summit will feature an in-depth ECHO Workshop highlighting CCTGA cases and, NEW this year, a CICU simulation workshop that will focus on management of the high-risk single ventricle population, incorporating evidence-based practice and contemporary data.

Education Objectives:

  • Compare the outcomes data on the available treatment options for both pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart disease, especially those with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries.
  • Compare the surgical options for congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries and long-term outcomes.
  • Describe procedures for managing complications and treatment failures in patients with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries.
  • Discuss the factors influencing the timing and selection of interventions for repair of CCTGA.
  • Review recent revisions to guidelines on congenital heart disease, including the management of adults with congenital heart disease.
  • Summarize the most recent updates on pathophysiology, imaging, and genetics of congenital heart disease.

Target Audience:

The Summit is targeted to anesthesiologists, cardiologists, critical care, cardiothoracic surgeons, pediatricians, OB-GYNs, perfusionists, and other health care providers interested in congenital heart disease.
