OVERVIEW

This symposium will introduce a variety of central nervous system (CNS) congenital anomalies and the challenges of diagnosis and treatment. Specific congenital syndromes will be discussed in detail to describe various approaches to each entity. In addition, models of care and future approaches will be discussed.

This activity will:

  • Raise the sensitivity of physicians and other healthcare professionals that care for patients who suffer from CNS congenital anomalies;
  • Provide a forum for medical professionals from varied specialties to share ideas and approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of CNS congenital anomalies;
  • Enhance enthusiasm for the treatment of patients with CNS congenital anomalies.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is designed for neurosurgeons, neurologists, pediatricians, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals dedicated to treating central nervous system congenital anomalies.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the complexities of living with a CNS congenital anomaly;
  • List the various tools used to diagnose and treat specific CNS congenital anomalies;
  • Identify congenital anomalies of the central nervous system that remain difficult to treat;
  • Describe current research approaches to several common congenital anomalies of the central nervous system.
