The field of esophageal surgery continues to change and develop in surgical skills and interventional techniques through research and patient outcomes. With growing innovations, the quality of patient care is of the highest value, as is the need for each physician to stay up to date with current trends and research as related to surgical care of patients. It is also imperative for physicians to stay abreast of the clinical findings from etiology, abnormalities, diseases, and pathology, to the state-of-the-art surgical treatment of patients with esophageal disease. With this, our educational and patient care team and attendees will be able to broaden their knowledge and carry this into their teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students. The speakers in the program are elite experts in their field nationally and locally.

The goal of this meeting is to bring together physicians and their teams in the field of esophageal surgery to educate and to share knowledge, techniques, research, and education to those attending, which will empower those in attendance to bring this information to their practice groups and/or departments to disseminate. This will further increase the continual knowledge from this meeting.

Needs & Practice Gaps:

  • Improved diagnosis and treatment of GERD, laryngopharyngeal reflux and achalasia. To gain skills to better diagnose and treat esophageal cancer, GERD and reflux in patients with end-stage lung disease.
  • Better recognition of the role of nonsurgical interventions for GERD in the current management of reflux disease; to understand the roles of balloon dilation, POEM and other tools in the current management of achalasia.
  • Improve techniques for treatment of Barrett’s Esophagus by reviewing the literature regarding various treatment options for Barrett’s esophagus.
