Join us virtually for the annual Bobby Menges Memorial HSS Limb Deformity Course where experts in alignment and deformity correction will share their knowledge on major advancements in limb salvage and osseointegration (OI) amputation surgery. Topics will include limb salvage procedure, including for bone defect management and after tumor, as compared to amputation, and knee fusion including managing limb length discrepancy, as well as deciding when fusion is indicated. Also learn updates on OI reconstruction procedures, including complication management, soft tissue management and targeted muscle reinnervation, and outcomes. Register today!

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is targeted to limb lengthening and complex reconstruction surgeons, pediatric orthopaedic surgeons, orthopaedic trauma surgeons, musculoskeletal tumor and oncology surgeons, podiatrists and physician assistants. Residents, fellows, nurse practitioners, surgical technicians, and medical students can also benefit from attending this activity.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

HSS continuing medical education activities are intended to improve the quality of patient care and safety. At the completion of the course, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe and recognize various orthopaedic conditions that can be treated safely with a limb salvage procedure, including for bone defect management and after tumor. They will determine when limb salvage is indicated as compared to amputation.
  • Describe and be able to incorporate into practice current techniques for knee fusion, including managing limb length discrepancy, as well as deciding when fusion is indicated.
  • Review evidence-based updates in osseointegration (OI) amputation reconstruction procedures, and discuss components of OI, including complication management, soft tissue management and targeted muscle reinnervation, and outcomes.

This course is named in memory of Bobby Menges and supported by the I'm Not Done Yet Foundation. In partnership with Dr. S. Robert Rozbruch, the Foundation is funding a comprehensive, longitudinal research study designed to identify and better understand the specific needs and challenges of children as they transition from pediatric to adolescent and young adult care.
