OVERVIEW
Expanded indications for cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) have led to more recognition of related complications including lead malfunction and infection which often require transvenous lead extraction. Properly managing these complications can be critically important and even lifesaving for these patients. New device technologies including subcutaneous devices and leadless pacemakers present new challenges for device extraction. This symposium will focus on the rapidly changing landscape of CIED and lead management including review of state of the art practices to minimize infection, overview of best practices and techniques for performing lead and device extraction.

OBJECTIVES

  • Describe best practices to prevent CIED infections and summarize the results of recent landmark trials
  • Discuss the indications and techniques for CIED extraction in specific clinical scenarios including coronary sinus leads and leadless pacemakers
  • Identify current and evolving approaches to performing lead extraction

AUDIENCE
Cardiac Electrophysiologists and Allied Health Specialists (NPs, Nurses, and PAs)
