The Maine Orthopaedic Review has provided orthopaedic board preparation continually since 1959. It presents a unique opportunity for study and review for residents, board candidates, and practicing orthopaedists looking toward recertification. The course is a comprehensive review with strong sections in pediatric orthopaedics, trauma, adult reconstruction, spine, basic science, orthopaedic oncology, hand and upper extremity, and sports medicine. Our faculty are well-known subspecialists with national and international appointments.

The Maine Orthopaedic Review has an extensive online question bank with over 11,000 review questions, linked to our proprietary library of board preparation materials. Our tests are now customizable to adapt to individual learning styles and needs. Spend time in a setting going over questions like the ones you will see on the written boards.

The Maine Orthopaedic Review is the only board review that provides participants with up to 50 AMA Category I CME credits. The Maine Orthopaedic Review is held at Colby College, a typical quaint New England college with a scenic, well-equipped campus. It is the perfect setting to get away from the hustle and bustle and focus on board preparation. At the end of the first week, join us for a world-famous Maine lobster bake as a reward for your hard work and time well-spent.

The rural campus of Colby College offers an ideal atmosphere for study and recreation. Spend two weeks with us in Maine this June!
All classes will be held in the air-conditioned Ostrove Auditorium in the Diamond Building. Casual clothing is the style for all occasions.

Computer-assisted Orthopaedic Education

The computer component of the course provides a unique opportunity for interactive, self-paced individual education with self-assessment exams and online references, throughout the length of the course.
A computer lab with a small number of public workstations is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to midnight. Participants may bring an ethernet-equipped or wireless computer with access (24/7) to these review materials from on-campus locations.

Course Objectives

The Maine Orthopaedic Review Course is designed to meet the needs of the board candidate or practicing orthopaedist for a thorough review of current orthopaedic practice.
The registrants will:

  • Increase their fund of knowledge through daily lectures and course syllabus,
  • Improve their orthopaedic x-ray interpretative skills through daily unknown cases and discussions with orthopaedic radiologist,
  • Improve their ability to apply the above skills and knowledge in an examination setting through the use of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Self-Assessment and Specialty Examinations with detailed explanations.

Case Presentations and Discussions

This is an outstanding opportunity for the Oral Examination (Part II) candidate to present cases to a subspecialist and the class, receive important feedback and hone the skills necessary for board success. Our goal is for each candidate to present all cases at least once to a faculty member, with constructive feedback necessary for passing the oral boards.

Accreditation

Colby College has been host to educational programs for the medical and allied health professions since 1945 and is the only private liberal arts college in the nation accredited to offer Category 1 credit for the Physician’s Recognition Award of the American Medical Association.

Colby designates this CME activity as meeting the criteria for up to 50 hours in Category 1 of the Physician’s Recognition Award of the American Medical Association.

MOR is MOC (Maintenance of Certification) eligible.
