Event info
This one-day CME course is designed as a ground-level-up educational seminar to teach or re-educate pediatricians and nurse practitioners about the common signs and symptoms of disorders that may need further evaluation by a pediatric neurosurgeon. Attendees will achieve how to recognize these infrequent occurrences, such as pediatric brain tumors, seizures, and inborn abnormalities of the spine, face and head, in the midst of a busy pediatric practice, how best to triage, when to image, and when to send the child to an emergency room.
Identified Practice Gaps / Educational Needs
Improved imaging and advanced minimally invasive treatment options have the potential to greatly improve patient care and outcomes in children with neurosurgical conditions, making it critical that pediatricians recognize signs and symptoms of these disorders. Practitioners should attend this course to improve their ability to identify patients whose symptoms require additional testing and evaluation, and who would benefit from a timely referral to a neurosurgeon.
Target Audience
This CME course is intended for primary care pediatricians as well as nurse practitioners, physican assistants, interns, residents, and fellows with a pediatric specialty.
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize common neurosurgical symptoms and disorders in children;
- Order the appropriate imaging studies for specific clinical findings
- Identify those patients who should be referred to a neurosurgical for further evaluation of those findings
