Is There a Need for Devices that Detect, Reduce, and Respond to AF?
Dr. Amin Al-Ahmad discusses the role of devices in the overall picture of managing patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). If patients have no known history of AF, or need their AF burden quantified, can device detection be trusted? Can devices reduce the risk of new onset AF, or in the case when AF already exists, is it possible to reduce the duration of AF? For patients with HF, is it possible to preserve resynchronization therapy even while the patient is in AF? Can consideration of devices and AF actually play a role in a busy AF ablation practice? These questions and more are discussed from the perspective of a busy, experienced cardiac electrophysiologist.
