Due to its low size-related restrictions, it enables to harvest larger plugs (up to a total of 5 cm2) without any additional iatrogenic complications. Thus, it is possible to create up to 6 osteochondral plugs of 6 mm each.
The mosaicplasty using the Porto GUT technique can overcome many of the reported complications associated with the osteochondral autograft harvesting. Thus, the upper tibio-fibular joint articular surface should be considered as a safe and reliable autograft source for harvesting osteochondral plugs.
