The use of new technologies (handheld flexible laser fibers, Sonopet Ultrasound
Aspirator, Nimbus facial nerve ...
read more ↘ continuous monitoring, LS CE-Chirp BAER, endoscope for IAC final check, and injectable bone substitute for closure) in vestibular schwannomas (Acoustic Neuromas) microsurgery seems to be safe and facilitate tumor resection, especially improving results in ‘‘difficult’’ conditions (e.g., highly vascularized or hard tumors, huge tumors, tight adhesions to cranial nerves and brainstem, extension to the funds of IAC) and minimizing postoperative complications and problems (better closure for avoiding CSF leaks and aesthetic problems, and so on).
The good functional outcome following conventional microsurgery could be further
improved and the extent of tumor removal could be increased by the new tools
available in the neurosurgical armamentarium.
