OVERVIEW

This fiftieth annual course is designed to provide physicians, advanced practice providers, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and other health care providers with state-of-the-art information regarding the pathogenesis and treatment of a variety of disease states. Internationally recognized guest lecturers and members of our faculty will give sharply focused clinically oriented talks on a range of topics. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:

  1. Review current concepts regarding kidney xenotransplantation, the use of transcriptomics in the diagnosis of kidney allograft rejection, and common infectious and malignant complications in the allograft recipient.
  2. Describe the Kidney Precision Medicine Project and the potential use of CAR-T cell therapy for lupus nephritis.
  3. Discuss recommendations for the optimal rates of correction of hypo- and hypernatremia, the role of genetics in disorders of renal potassium handling, and new insights into the pathogenesis of type IV renal tubular acidosis. 
  4. Explain the approach to patients with resistant hypertension and the potential utility of renal denervation in the treatment thereof. 
  5. Outline recent developments in the pathogenesis and treatment of patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis, C3 glomerulonephritis, and IgA nephropathy.
 

ACCREDITATION

The University of Colorado School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 

The University of Colorado School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 21.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 21.5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit. 

To earn board credit, the attendee must participate in the CME activity including the evaluation component. By participating in this event and requesting board credit, I understand that my learner completion data will be shared with the ACCME and the applicable certifying board(s).
