OVERVIEW
Evolving Concepts in Orthopaedic Trauma offers advanced instruction on the management of soft tissue trauma, fractures, and musculoskeletal injuries, from initial evaluation and treatment through rehabilitation. Topics the faculty will address include such issues as current controversies in upper and lower extremity fracture surgery, orthopaedic emergencies and impending crises, avoiding common pitfalls in fracture surgery, and pearls for managing complex fractures.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Orthopaedic surgeons, fellows, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other healthcare professionals whose scope of practice includes management of orthopaedic trauma patients.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Attendees should, at the completion of this course, be able to:
- Identify the current principles of management for patients with sports- and trauma-related orthopaedic injuries.
- Appreciate the nuances of diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating soft tissue injuries of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle.
- Integrate the technical aspects of rapid extremity immobilization, including spanning external fixation and intramedullary nailing, into clinical practice.
- Compare and contrast the various treatment strategies for patients with orthopaedic injuries.
- Define the current standards for rehabilitation of trauma-related orthopaedic injuries.
- Recognize and assess practice risk reduction in caring for patients with orthopaedic injuries.
