OVERVIEW

EBMed’s Great GI Debates is a hybrid meeting combining CME, networking/mentoring activities for our early-career faculty, and collaborations with industry during disease break-out sessions. One of EBMed’s goals is to facilitate the careers of women and under-represented minorities in academic gastroenterology and a large proportion of our senior and early-career faculty fit this goal.

The CME portion of the meeting will focus on: (a) inflammatory bowel disease; (b) esophageal disorders, including acid-peptic disorders and eosinophilic esophagitis; and, (c) GI motility disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome and chronic idiopathic constipation. Interactive formats will be emphasized with minimal traditional lectures.

Specific educational formats include:

  • Debate - Two senior faculty will debate a provocative clinical question with a third senior faculty serving as judge, and a jury of 6 early-career GI faculty will vote on most persuasive presentation.
  • Case Presentations - Brief case/ patient presentation (HIPAA compliant) focused on specific treatment options. Presented by Early-Career Faculty to panel of senior faculty who will vote on specific management questions.
  • "How I Do It" - Nationally-recognized leader discussing how she integrates clinical trial data and clinical experience when managing patients.
  • Early-Career Faculty will also record 15-minute “top tips” videos about management of a specific issue separate from the live CME meeting. These non-CME medical education videos will be posted on the EBMed website.

This event is free to attend, but you must register in advance
