OVERVIEW

This course will benefit hospitalists and general internists, family physicians, physicians-in-training, and allied health professionals who care for adult patients with infectious diseases. This is a clinically focused program designed for primary care health providers interested in the diagnosis and management of clinical problems encountered in primary care. After this activity, participants will be able to use appropriate diagnostic strategies for infectious diseases.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this activity, participant should be able to:

  1. Differentiate among various types of common infectious diseases and non-infectious mimickers.
  2. Apply current treatment guidelines for common infectious diseases prevalent in primary care.
  3. Select the most appropriate diagnostic strategies for infectious diseases.
  4. Specify effective infection prevention strategies and public health measures that primary care providers can implement in their practice, such as vaccinations and patient education.
  5. Discuss appropriate indications for referral to Infectious Diseases for infections commonly encountered in primary care.
