Event info

Despite an increased awareness of heart disease in women over the past decade, cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to be the number one cause of morbidity and mortality in women, and research in the realm of gender differences in cardiovascular disease, is still substantially lacking. It is well documented that heart disease in women is both under-recognized as well as undertreated due to several factors, and that overall mortality of women exceeds that of men treated for similar conditions.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

After attending this live activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss cardiovascular disease, conditions and risk factors which are more common and/or unique to women.
  • Identify the varied and atypical presentation of heart disease and arrhythmia in women.
  • Reflect on the underutilization of standard medical and device therapies in women compared to men.
  • Explore gender differences in the management of heart failure, valvular disease, and arrhythmia with a focus on the paucity of data for women.

ACCREDITATION

Scripps Health is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Scripps Health designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
