OVERVIEW

This educational program is designed for any health care provider, but in particular for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and physical therapists involved and/or interested in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) as an imaging tool to assist with diagnosis and monitoring of deep (and superficial) venous thromboembolism in the upper and lower extremities, as well as visualization of the neck vasculature (including jugular vein and carotid artery) and portal/hepatic vein system.  The course will also include the identifcation of abdominal structures such as spleen, lymph nodes, liver, kidneys, bladder and large abdominal vessels (particularly vena cava and aorta). Basic concepts of pathophysiological findings will be discussed.  Pediatric practitioners are welcomed. Teaching will involve the use of hand-held ultrasound devices to pave the pay for patient-centered care at bedside or in outpatient clinics.

This program is offered several times annually, and is held in San Diego, California at the UC San Diego Health Hemophilia & Thrombosis Treatment Center at UC San Diego Health.
