OVERVIEW

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of one in three women worldwide each year. Most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented with education, lifestyle change and preventive therapies, being sure to target the unique risk factor profiles of women. To date, preventive cardiology and women’s heart disease have been grossly under-represented in medical curricula despite their need for optimal care in women. The proposed CME activity is designed to educate practitioners across disciplines to prevent and treat heart disease in women. The conference addresses key time points such in the preconception, pregnancy and menopausal years, as well as unique areas of overlap in disciplines such as rheumatology, oncology and heart failure, spanning care from prevention to intervention. By educating all members of the care team, this conference unifies disciplines for more comprehensive care throughout a woman’s lifespan.
